What is Cozy Pine all about?
Cozy Pine Montessori is a unique blend of traditional and Montessori teachings. Over the past 7 years Carolyn has developed a curriculum model that truly meets the needs of every student. It is a model that treats every child as an individual and fits the curriculum around the child. It is totally individualized and unique.
How are we different?
Cozy Pine is different in many ways. The curriculum model incorporates several transitions throughout the child's school day. The large blocks of learning times are Writing Program, Academic/small group instructional lessons, Workbook time, and the favorite which is the traditional Montessori Worktime.
- Writing Time: Each child works at his /her own pace to move through a series of 12 writing books. The children are placed in the Writing Series Program after being assessed the first two weeks of school.
- Academic/Small Group Instruction: The children are placed in small learning groups according to their needs. These groups are no more than 5 students at a time with a teacher. The children focus on new concepts in math, reading, phonics, and writing.
- Workbook Time: Each child works at his/her own pace to move through a series of 9 Math Books and 10 Reading Phonics Books. Once again, the child will be assessed the first two weeks of school to determine placement in these two series. Work book time usually comes in as an extension the small group instruction.
- Montessori Worktime: This is a wonderful time in the child's day where he/she is able to work with all the beautiful hands-on materials that teach and support concepts in Math, Reading, Language, Sensorial, Geography, History, Science, and Writing. The children are free to pick and choose materials from all of these areas. All of the materials line the room on small child-safe shelves for east access.
